vehicle is used as a means of
transport for rice after the harvest, to
the village of Sango inhabited by
Akha ethnic group. This village is
under the King’s patronage for
planting fruit and vegetables to
replace the drugs during the cool
season.
Lunch at « La Vallée » restaurant.
In the afternoon, visit Pasak and
Chedi Luang temples. Continue to the
Opium Museum to learn the history
of the poppy.
Overnight in the Golden Triangle.
D5 GOLDEN TRIANGLE–CHIANG
KHONG–HOUEI SAY–PAKBENG
(B/L/D)
Early in the morning, after breakfast,
depart to the border at Chiang
Khong, cross the bridge to the Lao
Laos and meet with the local guide in
front of the Lao immigration office.
Transfer by Tuk Tuk and board a local
traditional boat for a cruise on the
Mekong River towards Pakbeng.
Navigation while the river traffic
increases as the boat crosses an area
mostly populated villages accessible
only by river.
Local lunch will be served on board.
In the afternoon, stop to visit a
typical Khamu village. Arrival at the
lodge before sunset and check-in.
Dinner and overnight in Pakbeng.
D6 PAKBENG–PAK OU–LUANG
PRABANG
After breakfast, return on board and
continue cruising along the river to
reach the former Royal capital of
Luang Prabang (approximately 6
hours according to the water level).
Local lunch will be served on board.
Stop to visit the sacred site of Pak Ou.
Inside a cliff overlooking the river, at
the exact spot where the Nam Ou
flows into the Mekong, Pak Ou
consists of two sacred caves housing
thousands of Buddha statues.
Along the way, stop at Ban Xang Hai
Village, specializing in the sticky rice
wine distillation.
Arrival in Luang Prabang late in the
afternoon and welcome by the local
guide then transfer and check-in at
hotel.
Overnight in Luang Prabang.
D7 LUANG PRABANG (B/L)
A NEW TRAVEL DIMENSION
After breakfast, depart to the Luang
Prabang Golf Club. Located about
15mn drive from the city center, this
course offers 18 holes (par 72) over
7.443 yards. Some holes show
spectacular views over the historical
town and the surrounding mountain
ranges.
Meanwhile…
After breakfast, depart to the beautiful
Khouang Sy waterfalls. En route, stop in
hill tribe villages to meet the Hmong
community.
Late morning, walk towards Khouang Sy
waterfalls nestled in lush tropical
vegetation. Free time at leisure for
swimming in one of the natural pools (if
weather permits).
(B/L) Lunch at local restaurant in the city.
Then visit the Traditional Arts and
Ethnology Centre of Luang Prabang
(closed on Mondays), a museum
dedicated to the collection,
preservation and interpretation of
traditional arts and lifestyles of the
numerous ethnic groups of the
country.
Transfer, late in the afternoon, to
attend a traditional Baci ceremony.
This is a collective ritual asking the
spirits to bring good luck, happiness
and prosperity to those who are
present. It is practiced on many
occasions, from the birth of a child to
an inauguration. After the young
people pay respect to the elders, a
mantra reciting begins to summon
the spirits to join the participants.
Overnight in Luang Prabang.
D8 LUANG PRABANG (B/L)
Depart from the hotel in the early
morning to watch the daily
procession of the monks. The people
of Luang Prabang rise up at dawn and
respectfully wait for the procession
to give alms to the monks (in the
form of food, rice, cakes, fruits…).
Return back to the hotel.
After breakfast, depart for a first
discovery of Luang Prabang, the
former royal capital which today is
