INTRODUCTION – LAOS


                                          Located on the eastern coast of the Indochinese peninsula and without access to the
                                          sea, Laos shares borders with China to the north, Myanmar in the northwest, Thailand
                                          to the west, Cambodia to the south and Vietnam to 'Is. About 70% of the total area is
                                          dominated by steep mountains, dense jungle and plateau. Peaks rise from 1500 to 2500
                                          m, the highest being the Phu Bia at 2820 meters altitude.
                                          The Mekong, which remains the main transport link, extends 1800 km. The cultivated
                                          areas are found along the Mekong plain where concentrates half of the population.
                                          Its capital is Vientiane.

        -   Vientiane, Wattay international airport (VTE)
        -   Pakse, international airport (PKZ)



        CLIMATE
        Laos has a tropical monsoon climate with two seasons: dry from October to April
        and rainy from May to September. Temperatures vary according to altitude and can
        be very cold in mountainous areas from November to February.





        SOME IMPORTANT CITIES – LAOS

        Luang Prabang
        Located at the confluence  of  the  Mekong  and  Khan  River, Luang  Prabang  is an
        attractive city with many temples and buildings dating from the colonial period.
        Former royal capital surrounded by mountains, this small town a World Heritage
        Site by UNESCO is a small city where time seems to stand still. Luang Prabang should be explored by foot in order to appreciate
        the beauty and serenity of this city with approximately 32 pagodas.

        Vientiane
        Vientiane is the Lao capital. It may be regarded as a very quiet city compared to other Asian capital cities, but nevertheless remains
        the most "active" city in the country. The Lao name of Vientiane is Viang Chan, “the city of sandalwood” or “the city of the moon”.
        Located on the Mekong river bank, the town offers a mixture of old gilded Buddhist temples and colonial architecture.
