                                   Macau,  a  former  Portuguese  colony,  was  founded  in  the  16th  century  as  an
                                   important  trading  port  between  Asia  and  Europe.  Influenced  by  Chinese  and
                                   Portuguese  cultures,  it  became  a  unique  crossroads  of  traditions,  religions  and
                                   cuisines. In 1999, Macau was handed back to China.
